On the other hand, a sequence is a group of 3 or more consecutive cards belonging to the same set. For instance, a 3 of clubs, 4 of clubs and a 5 of clubs is a sequence. Sequences can be either pure or impure. In cash indian rummy, based on the kind of sequence you have, you earn and lose your money. Read on to know the difference between the two.
The difference between pure sequence and impure sequence
Before reading about the different kinds of sequences, it is important to know about the concept of Joker cards. In 13 cards rummy, mostly 2 decks of cards are used. Each deck has a printed joker card. On top of that, a random card from the closed deck is selected as the wildcard joker card. All the suits of that card from both the decks then act as wildcard joker cards. Both printed and joker cards can be used to substitute other cards in rummy. This is an important aspect of Impure sequences.
Now, the differences.
- Pure Sequence
In rummy, a pure sequence is a group of 3 or more consecutive cards belonging to the same suit and formed without a printed or a wildcard joker. For instance, a 6 of clubs, a 7 of clubs, and an 8 of clubs is a pure sequence. The rules of 13 cards rummy dictate that in order to meld a valid hand, you must form a minimum of two sequences, and at least one of them should be a pure sequence. Forming a pure sequence as soon as possible must be your topmost priority while playing cash rummy. In case you don’t have a pure sequence at the end of the game, the points for all your cards are calculated, which means you lose a lot of money.
- Impure Sequence
Impure sequences are a group of 3 or more consecutive cards belonging to the same suit and formed using at least one printed or wildcard jokers. Impure sequences are comparatively easier to arrange and form, than pure sequences. In case you have a joker card with you, you can use it in place of any missing card from your hand to form an impure sequence. For example, a 2 of hearts, 3 of hearts, a wildcard joker card of 9 of spades and a 5 of hearts is an impure sequence. Here, the wildcard joker card which is the 9 of spades is used in place of 4 hearts to complete the sequence. The more joker cards you have, the easier it is for you to meld your card into an impure sequence. While they are easier to form, and not compulsory to meld in rummy.
Conclusion
Thus, we see that there are two kinds of sequences in rummy – pure and impure. Impure sequences are much easier to form with the use of joker cards. However, having a pure sequence in your hand is a must, and it helps you lower your points significantly, thus making you lose less money.
